The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for you to join the EMS Coordination Team as a Shift Manager.

The environment can be pressured and challenging as is the unpredictability of 999 calls and therefore good interpersonal skills and experience of working in small teams would be beneficial.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

* Being accountable for the efficient and effective management of deployment of resources to meet actual and anticipated demand.
* Being the first point of contact representing the Trust in situations requiring management involvement.
* Ensuring the effective organisation of the shift and deployment of resources.
* Be responsible for the operational leadership and supervision of all team members within EMS Coordination whilst on duty.

Qualifications and Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Post graduate education in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
* MPDS qualified or ability to achieve this qualification within 12 months
* Working towards undertaking an Operational Commander course within 12 months


Desirable criteria

* National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in call centre/call centre management
* Certificate in Management, or equivalent
* Commitment to continuous professional development
* Understanding of change management and the impact that can have on individuals, the team and an organisation


Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience in managing Ambulance Emergency Contact Centre Teams, demonstrating a good working knowledge of Call Flow, Dispatch systems, staff management including rostering and financial management.
* Experience monitoring service effectiveness
* Experienced in performance management, developing and supporting staff
* Experience of leading a team and recruiting staff
* IT literacy
* Implementing performance management systems


Desirable criteria

* Experience in acting to Duty Centre Manager delivering Organisational outcomes through internal and external engagement and participation.
* Optimising performance of direct reports and others
* Delivering outcomes in line with the values and required behaviours of the organisation
* Facilitating change with individuals and groups
* Analytical ability and problem solving
* Delivering financial management and identification of financial savings
* Implementation of equal opportunities
* Building personal and professional credibility with management and clinical teams and staff

* Proven track record in achieving objectives
* Financial skills, including budgetary management and costing skills
* Ability to interpret statistical information
* Research, evaluation and audit skills.
* Knowledge of analysing information in a meaningful manner in order to inform service provisions.
* Experience in report writing/presentations.
* Ability to speak Welsh
* An understanding of how bereavement and stress affects individuals’ behaviour
