Responsibilities
* The post holder will work within the department of Photodermatology, carrying out specialist photosensitivity tests on patients to support clinical diagnosis.
* Responsible for the safe delivery of all aspects of the service, complying with trust policies and procedures.
* Maintain photosensitivity testing equipment (with support & training from medical physics) and coordinate patient workload.
* Participate in regular clinical audit and R&D activities.
* Provide supervision and training for staff and other professionals.
* Give clinical specialist advice to patients regarding specialist photoprotection in photodermatoses.
The Non-Ionising Radiation Section of Medical Physics provides a clinical scientific service to multiple clinical departments, including Dermatology, and to other Trusts in London and the South East. This post holder may provide technical support for phototherapy; main role is phototesting.
The postholder will engage in and support research and service development across Photodermatology and Medical Physics.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* BSc degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Physics)
* Relevant MSc (e.g. Medical Physics) or equivalent knowledge of photosensitivity testing or similar
* Registration as a Clinical Technologist or equivalent (qualified Healthcare Practitioner)
Desirable
* Higher degree in a relevant subject
* Previous experience in a technical or scientific specialist role in a clinical environment
* Use of clinical/laboratory equipment
* Previous experience in Clinical Phototesting of patients
* Specialised experience in UV physics including safety and measurements
* Experience of optical radiation measurement instrumentation and dosimetry
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Essential
* Awareness of risks from ultraviolet (UV) optical radiation sources
* Ability to lead and work effectively in a team
* IT skills for organising work (spreadsheets, databases)
* Experience of audit, research and evidence-based care
Desirable
* Broad knowledge of photodermatology and phototesting in clinical practice
* Knowledge of Optical physics and UV effects on skin
