Join to apply for the Restorative Consultant Dentist role at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to combine NHS clinical activity with a formal commitment to academic clinical teaching and research. The post is full-time and attracts a total of 10 programmed activities (PAs): 6 PAs for NHS activities based at UHMB (Lancaster) and 4 PAs devoted to an academic role at the School of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
The post joins the oral and maxillofacial department to provide restorative consultant input with an additional formal university academic component. The role will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan in Preston, with potential work at other NHS sites across Lancashire and South Cumbria. The job plan will be negotiable for the successful candidate.
The maxillofacial unit provides teaching for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLAN. There is scope for further development in Endodontics. The department has offices, secretarial and computer facilities, an electronic EPR and PACS system for radiography and digital photography, and a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory with skilled technical support.
You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and on the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry. You should have successfully completed, or be within 6 months of an SAC-approved training in restorative dentistry or equivalent at the time of interview.
Responsibilities
* Provide restorative dentistry input within the oral and maxillofacial department for NHS patients.
* Contribute to academic teaching and research as part of the clinical academic role at UCLan.
* Deliver care across UHMB sites including Lancaster, with duties at UCLan in Preston and potential work at other sites.
* Participate in the development of services and teaching for dental students and trainees.
* Engage in collaborative multidisciplinary team work and clinical governance.
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice.
* On the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry.
* Completed, or within 6 months of completion, SAC-approved training in restorative dentistry or equivalent at interview time.
Location and hours
The Trust operates from Furness General Hospital (Barrow), Royal Lancaster Infirmary (Lancaster), and Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), with additional community premises. The role is based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan and potential opportunities across Bay sites. This is a full-time post with a negotiable job plan.
