In House Counsel - Head of Legal Gloucester Brief Our client is an award-winning events provider, enabling the UK and Europe’s most prestigious venues and stadia to deliver outstanding fan and spectator experience - seek to recruit their first in house legal counsel. The company currently turns over c.£150million and are seeking to recruit someone on a part time 3 day a week basis. Role and Requirements As Sole Legal Counsel, you’ll lead the legal function and have responsibility for everything legal and contract related, from contributing to commercial strategy, leading commercial and legal negotiations to bespoke contract drafting. You will evaluate and manage legal risk, creating options to resolve complex problems, to facilitate and enable the company to maintain its integrity, minimise and mitigate undue legal risk exposure, operate smoothly, and enhance its position. You’ll cover all legal activities in support of the company and its group’s full range of trading and other activities. The commercial portfolio is diverse and varied ranging from multi-million-pound contracts to smaller strategic alliances. Key Responsibilities Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Review, draft, and negotiate various commercial contracts, including client, vendor, and outsourcing agreements. Legal Compliance & Regulatory Guidance: Ensure the company complies with UK and international laws, including corporate governance, employment, and commercial regulations. Risk Management & Mitigation: Identify and address legal risks, advising stakeholders on risk reduction strategies. Data Privacy & Security: Oversee compliance with data protection laws, including GDPR, advising on best practices in data security and privacy. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting: Provide clear and practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders, ensuring alignment between business objectives and legal compliance. Corporate & Commercial Matters: Support the business in key transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. Training & Education: Develop and deliver training sessions to internal teams on legal issues, fostering a culture of compliance and awareness. Manage External Legal Providers: When the business needs to work with an external specialist legal advisors, you will be in charge of the relationship and billing. Due Diligence: Manage the entire DD process for any transaction across the group Alignment: Alignment of any existing agreements with external legal advisors and develop a framework for engagements in the future Review and Protection: Full review of all historical and future legal matters to ensure full compliance and protection across the group Who we’re looking for Qualified Solicitor (UK) with Strong Post-Qualified Experience in commercial, corporate, or technology law. Proven Experience Managing Legal Risks on complex projects and large-scale programmes. Expertise in Data Protection & Compliance, including GDPR and data security. Strong Organisational & Problem-Solving Skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent Communication & Stakeholder Management Skills, able to translate legal concepts for non-legal colleagues. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Experience is highly desirable.
