Role Overview:
As a Mechanical Estimator, youll estimate costs for mechanical engineering and energy projects, spanning HVAC systems, piping, renewables, and building services for commercial, residential, and industrial clients. You'll support pre-construction bids, collaborate with technical and project teams, and help deliver technically accurate, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review drawings, design specifications, and supplier materials to scope out mechanical components accurately.
* Prepare detailed cost breakdowns covering labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor bids. Develop and submit competitive tender packages.
* Identify design or material efficiencies to optimize costs without compromising performance or safety.
* Engage with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, clients, and suppliers to validate estimates, negotiate pricing, and ensure alignment.
* Where needed, visit project locations to assess conditions and inform accurate estimating.
* Assess risk factors, estimate uncertainties, and monitor costs throughout project delivery to manage budgets effectively.
* Produce clear internal and client-facing reports, transfer pricing schedules, and post-tender summaries.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Experience as a Mechanical Estimator, preferably within building services, renewables, or engineering firms.
* Mechanical Engineering qualification, Building Services, or a related field.
* Understanding of HVAC systems, piping/plumbing, renewables (e.g. solar PV), installation methods, and building regulations.
