Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology

The closing date is 07 November 2025

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology. This is a whole time, 6-Month post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Due to the short-term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.


Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

* Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients, supervising more junior members of the team.
* Lead inpatient ward rounds to ensure the on-going clinical management of patients is appropriate. Support the discharge of patients, to a place of safety, in a timely manner.
* Participate in or lead the acute take, to provide senior clinical decisions, with the support of consultant clinicians.
* Contribute to the Medical Emergency Team (MET). Lead cardiac arrest calls.
* Contribute to GIM/medical speciality clinics.
* Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
* Advise junior trainees and ANPs about management of patients.
* Develop skills in managing the ward to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.

Professional Responsibilities

* To participate in clinical audit and or quality improvement (QI) project.
* Educational supervision will be provided.
* To maintain a portfolio of training.
* To comply with Trust policies and procedures, have (and maintain) GMC registration /licensing.

Job responsibilities

To observe the provisions of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.

To actively participate in the annual performance review to identify personal development needs.

To attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other training courses relevant to the post.

To fully comply with the relevant sections of the Health and Safety at Work Act. They must also understand and implement Mersey and West Lancashire Hospitals NHS Hospitals Trust Statement of Policy on Health and Safety at Work and the Trust corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. You are required to follow all applicable rules and procedures relating to Health and Safety at Work and to take all responsible precautions to avoid actions.

To be aware of the confidential aspects of the post. To keep up to date with the requirements of information governance; undertake mandatory training and follow Trust policies and procedures to ensure that trust information is dealt with legally, securely, efficiently and effectively. Breaches of confidentiality will result in disciplinary action that may involve dismissal. You must maintain the confidentiality of information about service user staff and organisational business in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR) and Caldicott principles.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application
* MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
* ALS Certification
* Completed Foundation Year Programme and/or equivalent medical qualification/experience
* Completed 2 years' experience in a medical speciality, post Foundation Programme or equivalent experience
* Completed or part completed UK MRCP examinations or equivalent post-graduate examination


Experience

* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of your professional code of conduct
* Ability to demonstrate good clinical care
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Excellent interpersonal skills and caring attitude to patients
* Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate


Skills

* Competent in history taking and examination skills


Other

* Excellent communications skills
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Exhibit leadership skills & be able to lead a clinical team
* Demonstrated administration ability or responsibility, not necessarily medical
* Have experience of clinical audit, service improvement or research
