Job Description Summary
As the Lead Mechanical Engineer for Shaft Line Integration, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of rotating machines and power generation systems for the marine sector. You will also provide product support from initial inquiry to project closure. Reporting directly to the Systems Engineering Manager, you will perform both hands‑on and office‑based activities ensuring the timely delivery of solutions that are safe and cost‑effective.
Core Responsibilities
* Design rotating machine systems from order receipt to handover, complying with business procedures, standards, and regulations with a high focus on safety.
* Collaborate and work as part of a wider cross‑functional engineering team.
* Integrate large electro‑mechanical systems to meet environmental and transversal requirements.
* Plan and execute relevant engineering activities, ensuring projects meet on‑time delivery, cost, and quality targets, including testing and documentation.
* Participate in phase reviews, design reviews, ILS reviews, and FMEA, acting as review chairperson.
* Coordinate with suppliers to produce quotations and support their site activities.
* Ensure issued documents are reviewed and meet required quality, specifications, and standards.
Essential Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
* Proven track record of designing mechanical systems in a professional engineering environment.
* Ability to perform basic structural design and calculations, including structural design specifications and mechanical finite element analysis (FEA).
* Solid understanding of rotor dynamics such as torsional and lateral vibration, shaft lines, bearings, mechanical coupling, and shock absorption.
* Excellent knowledge of thermal and fluid dynamics.
* Experience in testing, verification, and validation of rotating equipment.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Some experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO, or similar.
* Basic understanding of electrical and power generation principles.
* British citizenship with a valid British passport (“UK Eyes only”).
* Possession of or capability to obtain SC level security clearance.

* Ability to lead a team of engineers.
* Some experience in project management or project planning.
* Prior experience with active magnetic bearings.
