Are you highly organised, detail-driven, and passionate about supporting surgical teams to deliver exceptional patient care? Join us as a Department Implant/Instrument Coordinator and play a key role in the smooth running of our theatres at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In this dynamic role, you’ll be the go-to expert for managing implants and instruments across elective, emergency, and trauma surgery. You’ll ensure everything is in place for successful operations—tracking stock, maintaining sterility, and liaising with suppliers and internal teams to keep things moving efficiently. Your work will directly impact patient safety and the quality of care we provide.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for using their clinical knowledge to streamline, organise,monitor and order as required, Implants/stock for Elective, Emergency and Trauma Surgery.

To monitor and assist with any stock issues around instruments within the department.

To help streamline instrument trays for the department.

To assist with stock control and provide audit reports on stock as requested.

To liaise with Management, procurement and finance teams with required audit information.

The post holder is needs to be acutely aware of the budgetary resources available and the need to work within the financial envelope.

They will ensure all stock and loan kit is stored and handled correctly and that strict sterility is maintained.

They will assist the theatre teams by monitoring processes to ensure that all implants received and processed and that strict inventory of invoices and receipts are maintained to ensure accurate accounting.

To provide monthly feedback to finance when implants have been used.

They will support the productive operation of the theatre lists by liaising with procurement to ensure that stock levels reflect demand and any shortfalls are escalated communicated across the department.

They will build and maintain relationships with procurement other departments, companies and their representatives and act as a point of contact.

Fosters and maintains good working relationships with:-

5. Companies and their representatives.

7. Sterile services

Dealing with day to day queries and seeking resolution.

All implants are received into the department are checked for sterility and expiry dates

Ensures that all unused loan implants are returned to the company in the appropriate time frame

Handle and store implants safely, complying with Trust policy
Develop and maintain an implant library for replacing used implants.

Liaise with theatre coordinator/relevant clinical manager if implants are reported as missing

Undertakes monthly audit of stock and forwards information to procurement

Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.

Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Maintain and develop own competence in accordance with Trust and local policy.

Communicate and document information in a timely and appropriate manner.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

8. Basic General Education
9. GCSE Maths & English grade C Or above OR level 2 numeracy skills and level 2 literacy skills

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

10. Basic IT Skills
11. Previous experience of working in the theatre environment
12. Understanding of Health and safety issues within Healthcare
13. Understanding of the concept and application of confidentiality

Desirable criteria

14. Evidence of working in a band 2 role or equivalent in theatres
