Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced French Translations Editor to join their Communications for Development function. This role ensures high-quality French translations across a wide range of learning, training and digital resources, supporting audiences primarily in Francophone Africa.
You will manage end-to-end translation workflows, collaborate with a network of freelance linguists, and contribute to developing translation standards, processes and digital tools. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled linguist with strong editorial judgement and cultural insight to support global knowledge-sharing and multilingual communication.
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available depending on location.
Responsibilities
* Oversee translation workflows for French-language content, ensuring accuracy and consistency across publications, training materials, digital resources and multimedia outputs.
* Coordinate and quality-assure work delivered by freelance translators and proofreaders.
* Apply strong editorial judgement to ensure translations align with organisational standards, tone and audience needs.
* Strengthen translation processes, including the use of translation management systems, CAT tools and AI-supported workflows.
* Provide cultural and linguistic insight relevant to Francophone African contexts.
* Manage multiple translation projects concurrently, delivering high-quality outputs to agreed deadlines.
* Contribute to improving translation guidelines, best practice and cross-team collaboration.
Requirements
* Native-level French proficiency and excellent command of English (written and spoken).
* Proven experience in translation and/or proofreading between English and French, ideally using CAT tools or translation management systems.
* Experience managing translation projects and coordinating freelancers.
* Strong understanding of Francophone African linguistic and cultural contexts.
* Excellent editorial skills with exceptional attention to detail.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight timelines.
* Experience working with digital content, publishing workflows or AI translation tools (desirable).
* Prior experience within a values-driven or faith-based organisation is advantageous.
* Alignment with the organisation’s values and ethos is required.
