Devon County Council Sensory & Physical Team currently have a vacancy for a qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD) to work in a peripatetic role, Start date 01/09/2024.
(Applications will also be considered from those who are currently undertaking the ToD mandatory qualification or outstanding class teachers who are willing to commit to the 2 year TOD mandatory qualification course)

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated professional who has:
1. A passion and vision for raising outcomes for Deaf & HI CYP
2. A successful track record of delivering improved outcomes for CYP.
3. The ability to communicate effectively with Deaf & HI CYP, parents, schools and settings.
4. Proven skills in Audiology
5. Has BSL (level 2 minimum) or working towards
You will be responsible for:
6. Monitoring and teaching a caseload of children and young people, aged 0-25 yrs.
7. Promoting the successful inclusion and learning opportunities of CYP with hearing loss across all educational settings
8. Providing advice and training to schools to facilitate teachers addressing the particular educational needs of CYP who have a hearing loss, which will allow increased capacity in schools & ability to meet individual need at universal & targeted level.
9. Teaching & modelling good practice
10. Building capacity within schools through training and awareness raising.
11. Working closely with class teachers, special needs co-ordinators and teaching assistants in schools to develop effective teaching strategies, adaptations and successful inclusion in relation to individuals and groups of CYP who have a hearing loss
Enhanced DBS will be required for this role.
Ability to travel in accordance with the role is essential.
