Job Summary
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced paediatric nurse to lead our growing Children’s Emergency Department. The department sees about 30,000 children per year in a purpose‑built paediatric area within the Emergency Department, featuring two resuscitation bays, a high‑dependency area, an outside play area, a multi‑sensory treatment room and an adolescent area.
Main Duties of the Job
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading a team of ED nurses and supporting the Paediatric Matron in providing high‑quality care to the Croydon community.
* Managing clinical care in a fast‑paced environment, including triage, streaming, wound closure, POP, phlebotomy and extended A&E skills.
* Participating in service‑improvement projects, redesign, recruitment and departmental audits.
* Attending courses to develop clinical and leadership skills, and facilitating learning for staff.
* Providing clinical and safeguarding supervision where appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse (child branch)
* Degree or evidence of post‑graduate learning
* Mentorship or equivalent
* Children Accident and Emergency course or equivalent
* EPLS
* Substantial paediatric A&E experience with proven Band 6 level work
* Current knowledge of NHS reforms
* Excellent communication skills
* Extended A&E skills: triage/streaming, wound closure, POP, phlebotomy
* Presentation both verbal and written
* Able to facilitate learning
* Evidence of managing a team
Desirable
* APLS
* HMIMMS
* Leadership course
* ATLS
* EPLS / HMIMMS provider
* Specialist knowledge of emergency care
* Ability to provide clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision
