We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Highly Specialist CAMHS clinician to come and work in the socially and ethnically diverse borough of Newham. The successful applicant will have significant expertise in working with children and young people with learning disability, autism or both, and robust knowledge of behavioural approaches, including Positive Behaviour Support. This post is open to applicants from all disciplines including Behaviour Analyst, Family & Systemic Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health or LD) and Social Worker.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role will be to:
a)provide treatment to CYP with LD, autism or both, their families and networks through complex care co-ordination
b)ensure this care is based on contemporary evidence-based practice
c)provide an expert clinical resource in understanding CYP’s behaviours of concern and complex presentations, both directly in clinical work and indirectly within NDT and wider CAMHS, and to multi-agency partners
d)provide Line Management and clinical supervision within NDT
e)support ongoing service development

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This post is part of a comprehensive Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, within East London NHS Foundation Trust. This is a community-based post in Newham CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT), which requires a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management. The post holder will conduct specialist assessments and offer evidenced based clinical interventions to children and young people with autism, learning disability or both.
The post holder would directly contribute to and support a positive working environment within a multidisciplinary team and will be expected to offer supervision and management to more junior clinical staff (band 7 and below). The post holder will be supervised by a senior colleague within the team. There is a strong commitment to clinical supervision and professional development within CAMHS and the wider NHS Foundation Trust including many learning and teaching opportunities.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential criteria
1. Behaviour Analyst, Family & Systemic Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health or LD) and Social Worker.
2. Appropriate level of qualification for your profession e.g. BSc, Masters or Doctorate
3. Registration with your appropriate body (e.g. UKBA, UKCP, NMC, HCP etc.)
4. Evidence of continuous and relevant professional training and development (CPD) in keeping with qualification period
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Substantial experience at Band 7 in delivering specialist mental health assessment and treatment interventions in CAMHS for children and young people, and their families, with autism, learning disability or both, and complex behavioural or mental health problems
6. Substantial experience of risk assessment and risk management
7. Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency context and with complex networks for children and young people with LD, autism or both
8. Substantial experience of working with children and young people in an emotionally demanding environment
9. Experience of working with a wide variety of patient/client groups across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
10. Experience of working with children, young people and families in crisis
11. Experience of providing supervision
12. Experience of working with safeguarding issues in the context of severe behaviours of concern.
13. Experience/knowledge of working in a multi-ethnic community and of working with interpreters
14. Substantial experience of providing consultation in the multi-agency context
15. Experience, skills and flexibility to contribute to and facilitate effective working within a multi-disciplinary team setting

19. Extensive and expert knowledge and experience of mental health and psychosocial needs of CYP with neurodevelopmental issues.

21. Ability to work autonomously and make independent clinical judgements and decisions prioritising concurrent and competing issues
22. Evidence of continuing professional and clinical development within your profession and CAMHS NDT.
23. Knowledge of child development/ mental health issues/neurodevelopmental conditions and skill in using suitable interventions with this client group.
24. Sufficient knowledge of other modalities to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients
25. Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical issues, including The Children Act, and strategic frameworks and their implications for both clinical practice and professional management
26. Knowledge, understanding and experience with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and families with a high level of deprivation
27. Knowledge of current developments in CAMH guidelines and recommendations for assessment and intervention with children and adolescents with learning disability or autism or both.
