At Main Roads we are committed to delivering a world-class road network and creating positive, lasting impacts for WA communities. We play a critical role in overseeing the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of major roads and highways across the State.

We work closely with our portfolio partners, Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, and Public Transport Authority as well as local governments to support the needs of all road users across the state by providing an integrated world-class road transport network.

About the Role

We are looking for a Standards Coordinator to join our Materials Engineering team and play a vital role in ensuring that Main Roads Materials Engineering standards, guidelines, methods and processes used across Western Australia are implemented effectively.

In this role you will coordinate, monitor, audit and assist in the adherence and implementation of the Main Roads Laboratory information management, including maintaining systems to record and analyse the construction materials project performance data.

You will also support the development and review of materials test methods, guidelines, procedures and standards and undertake research applicable to the development of these standards. You will also provide advice on auditing testing requirements and procedures and liaise with regional laboratories regarding materials and product testing.

Having the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships is essential in this role, as you will be collaborating with internal teams, external partners, local government and community stakeholders.

Some of the key responsibilities:

1. Coordinate the scoping, development, maintenance and implementation of the Main Roads Laboratory Quality System Manual.
2. Monitor, audit and assist Main Roads laboratories to ensure compliance with the Laboratory Quality System and NATA requirements.
3. Liaise with laboratories and Directorates in the delivery of materials testing and project conformance audits.
4. Develop and maintain systems to record, analyse and report on materials testing and project audit data.
5. Build and maintain strong working relationships with Main Roads Directorates, the Transport Portfolio and external stakeholders.
6. Consult, negotiate and liaise with regional materials services, project delivery teams and external laboratories on laboratory standards and test methods.

We’re looking for someone with the following skillsets:

7. Has an Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Operations or a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge and experience
8. Can interpret and apply NATA accreditation requirements
9. Have experience in pavements and road constructions materials testing, research and analysis
10. Be a strong negotiator with excellent liaison and stakeholder engagement skills
11. Have sound written communication and report writing skills

This role will be based in Perth Metropolitan (Welshpool); however, the successful candidate must be willing to undertake regional deployments for a period of time across the state.

What We Offer:

At Main Roads, you can have a challenging, flexible and rewarding career that takes you exactly where you want to go with an organisation who supports a healthy work-life balance to help with what is important to you.

In addition to rewarding work, and the security of a permanent position, some of the benefits of working with Main Roads include:

12. Receive a salary increase on 1st Feb 2026, as part of our CSA agreement
13. Option to work or 40 hours per week
