Primary Responsibilities of a Healthcare Assistant in an Outpatients Department
1. Supporting Doctors, registered Nurses, and other professional staff with patient care and department duties.
2. Ensuring patients receive high-standard care through routine monitoring and care duties tailored to each patient.
3. Investigating patient pathways to update and maintain accurate records via internal patient systems.
4. Preparing patients for treatments or surgeries, including conducting necessary checks prior to procedures.
5. Performing phlebotomy and working with Lab Technicians to provide relevant patient and sample information.
6. Handling administrative tasks such as collecting patient information, managing admissions and discharges, and follow-up calls.
7. Maintaining health, safety, and hygiene standards within the department, identifying hazards, and reporting issues.
Extended Healthcare Skills
Experience in a hospital or clinical environment, with qualifications such as NVQ level 1&2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent. Skilled in phlebotomy, ECGs, and supporting patients directly alongside doctors. Computer literacy for updating records and learning new systems quickly. Effective communication skills for liaising with internal and external departments, patients, and their families or carers.
