We require a dispensing assistant to work in our practice dispensary. NVQ2 qualified (preferred but not essential).
We are a small rural practice with approximately 3000 dispensing patients.
The position is for 20 hours per week: 1 pm – 6 pm on Tuesday, and 9 am – 5 pm on Thursday and Friday.
Main duties of the job
* Greet dispensary patients and other visitors in a friendly manner and deal with queries in a professional, courteous, and efficient way.
* Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions.
* Assist with stock control, ordering and re‑stocking of the dispensary.
* Check medicines and appliances against prescriptions according to standard operating procedures.
* Collect prescription charges and ensure patient declarations are completed and signed.
* Safely handle monies and maintain accurate records.
* Endorse prescription forms when appropriate.
* Forward invoices and related correspondence to the Practice Manager or dispensary manager.
* Maintain efficient stock control to ensure continuity of supply and minimise wastage.
* Store drugs and items appropriately, maintaining temperature controls and records.
* Keep shelves and work surfaces clean and tidy.
* Respond promptly to drug alert bulletins.
* Maintain temperature control logbook for refrigerated items.
* Maintain full and accurate computerised records of dispensing transactions.
* Provide holiday and other absence cover for colleagues.
* Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Dispensary Manager.

Qualifications
* Good general secondary school education.
* NVQ2 qualification in pharmacy dispensing (preferred).
Experience
* Experience working in a similar GP dispensary environment.
* Experience with GP dispensing systems.
