This role is a permanent full-time position offering 37.5hours per week, however, requests to work condensed hours, part-time orjob-share will be considered, taking into account business needs and this willbe reviewed annually.

Main duties of the job

DPHC is a vibrant and fast paced organisation which aimsto provide the absolute best primary healthcare to members of the Armed Forcesand other entitled personnel.

DPHC delivers a clinical service in accordance with NHSStandards and MoD policies.

You will primarily provide dental treatment, oral hygieneinstruction and education, administration, enhancing force generation andoperational capability and minimising dental morbidity on operations. Whilealso providing, if requested, clinical and administrative support for theprovision of dental care in other local DPHC sites or health fairs.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Undertaking Continuous Professional Developmentin the core subjects of medical emergencies, Infection Prevention Control(IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection,legal and ethical issues, and handling complaints, as recommended by theGeneral Dental Council.

Providing treatment in line with the scope ofpractice for dental hygienists as outlined General Dental Council publicationScope of Practice. Treatment should be delivered in line with professionalguidelines e.g. BSP guidance, and in accordance with agreed patient groupdirective.

Supporting the Senior Dental Officer andPractice manager with administrative functions, as needed.

Deliver elements of a dental treatment plan onprescription from a registered dentist in line with professional body guidance.

Being familiar of the content of the DentalEmergency Resuscitation Kit (DERK), how to access it, how to use the componentsand be capable of carrying out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) ifnecessary, in support of patients and colleagues.

Be prepared to travel to and work from othercentres, if required, in line with contracts and policy.

There are no expected Line Management responsibilitieswith this role, and any future changes will be discussed with the successfulapplicant at the time.

Selection Process:

The Ministry of Defence requires all candidates who aresuccessful at interview to declare any outside interests. These declarationswill be discussed with successful candidates following the interview processand before a formal offer of employment is made, as some outside interests maynot be compatible with MOD civilian roles. This will not, in the majority ofcases, prevent employment in MOD, but it is a measure that must be taken toensure that appropriate mitigations can be put in place to manage any potential,perceived or actual conflicts of interest from the first day of employment.

Additional Information

The salary will be pro-rata where part-time hours areundertaken.

There will be no reimbursement for any travel expensesfor the interview.

Person Specification


Registration and Memberships

* Please provide your membership registration number for the General Dental Council (GDC).
* Please state if you are nearing completion of your qualification and understand you will have to obtain GDC membership prior to starting in post.


Experience

* A Full United Kingdom driving licence to enable working from another local military dental centres, if required.
* Evidence of indemnity cover for general dental practice (candidates are strongly encouraged to have personal professional indemnity).
* Evidence of currency with GDC Continued Professional Development requirements.
* Be prepared to contribute to the development of staff skills and knowledge.
* Confidence in using Information Technology.
* Prepared to cover out of hours dental duties when needed.

Qualifications

* Satisfactorily completed a GDC-approved Certificate/Diploma in Dental Hygiene or BSc (Bachelor of Science) in Dental Therapy as outlined Dental therapy and dental hygiene (gdc-uk.org).
* Current full General Dental Council registration. If not currently held, you will have to obtain this prior to commencing in post.
