Job Purpose
To provide and supervise the delivery of high standards of nursing care to inpatients suffering from eating disorders, in accordance with up-to-date evidence‑based professional practice and Trust policies.
Job Overview
Participate in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care independently; act as a key worker for a specific group of patients; supervise practice and procedures in line with Trust policies; manage, coordinate and lead nursing shifts; play a key role in the induction, training, mentorship of new and unregistered staff, and provide clinical supervision as appropriate.
Main Duties
* Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Mental Health Legislation, respecting diversity in gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, culture and disability.
* Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, ensuring individual patient needs are met and detailed discharge arrangements align with the Trust Care Programme Approach.
* Act as an active member of the multidisciplinary team, accountable for practice and collaborating with other health professionals, patients and families.
* Assist with feeding patients, including serving meals, modelling appropriate eating patterns, and assisted feeding using Nasal gastric tube or PEG.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse.
* Current Registration with NMC.
* PMVA or C&R training or equivalent.
* Desirable: Mentorship training.
Experience
* Post‑registration experience with genuine interest in specialist nursing.
* Understanding of nursing in eating disorders.
* Desirable: Experience of working with eating disorders; experience with people with personality disorders.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication.
* Treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach.
* Knowledge of Care Programme Approach and risk assessment.
* Utilise reflective practice in supervision.
* Genuine interest in working with people with severe eating disorders.
* Basic knowledge of eating disorders.
* Assess care needs, develop and review care plans with multidisciplinary team.
* Willingness to undertake venepuncture and ECG recording and other necessary training.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Computer literate.
