Senior Social Worker - Looked After Children (LAC) Team Location: Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (Chelmunds Place) Pay Rate: £30.57 per hour (MOU capped rate) Contract: Full-time | Monday-Friday, 8:45am-5:20pm | Hybrid (40-50% office based) Start Date: ASAP About the Role Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) is seeking experienced Senior Social Workers to join their Looked After Children (LAC) Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, forward-thinking service dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for children and young people across Solihull. You'll work with children and young people aged 0-18, taking responsibility for their care once a plan has been agreed that they need to be looked after. The team supports children with complex needs and varying care plans, including court work related to the discharge of care orders. This is a role where relationship-based practice is at the heart of everything you do - ensuring every child feels safe, heard, and supported to thrive. Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of looked after children, ensuring high-quality care and effective care planning. Build strong, trusting relationships with children and young people to support participation in their plans. Undertake safeguarding assessments and investigations when required. Work collaboratively with families, carers, and partner agencies to promote positive outcomes. Prepare detailed, evidence-based reports for reviews, court, and planning meetings. Support permanency planning and transitions for children leaving care. Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and duty on a rota basis (one day per week). Requirements Qualified Social Worker (Degree, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent). Registered with Social Work England. Minimum of 3 years' post-qualified frontline social work experience. Experience in Looked After Children (LAC), safeguarding, or court work. Strong understanding of care planning, statutory responsibilities, and child development.
