Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Department of Digestive Disorders. Every attempt will be made to accommodate sub-specialty interests depending on individuals. There is no commitment for General Medicine in these posts. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the major teaching hospital for the North of Scotland. The Department of Digestive Disorders provides tertiary services for NHS Grampian, Shetland and Orkney. The successful applicants would join a team of 14 NHS Consultants and one Associate Specialist. The department offers a full range of secondary and tertiary luminal gastroenterology services, including advanced IBD, advanced endoscopy, hepatology and nutrition services. In-patient care takes place in the Emergency Care Centre with a dedicated 29-bed gastroenterology ward. Clinic and endoscopy facilities have been renovated to provide excellent facilities. The unit has an active research programme with The University of Aberdeen, and strong postgraduate educational facilities at the Suttie Centre for medical education.
Responsibilities and Opportunities
* Provide gastroenterology services across secondary and tertiary care levels, including endoscopy and luminal gastroenterology.
* Participate in the Department of Digestive Disorders’ clinical, teaching and research activities.
* Contribute to in-patient care in the 29-bed Gastroenterology ward and related clinics.
* Engage in planning and delivering patient-centred care within the job plan (to be discussed individually).
Qualifications and Requirements
* Full GMC registration and a licence to practise (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting).
* Be eligible for or possess full registration with the GMC.
* Ability to work within an established team of consultants and contribute to the department’s services.
