Barnsley Hospice is looking for new Trustees
to help deliver its mission of providing high quality palliative and end of life care to the people of Barnsley. We provide a range of services free of charge, caring for adults living with active and progressive life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, heart and lung diseases and neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease and Parkinson's disease. We are also here to support friends and family.
We are looking for positive, caring and driven members of our communities to join us on our Board of Trustees. This is a rewarding and valuable opportunity to share your perspective, skills and energy for what we do. We are particularly interested in people who have significant professional experience in Business, Accountancy/Finance, Legal, Human Resources and Clinical backgrounds.
These are voluntary positions with expenses paid.
What is the role of a Trustee?
Trustees are volunteers who are vital to the running of the charity. Alongside other Trustees, you will help to shape the future strategy of the hospice as well as make sure that it is meeting its charitable objectives and is run sustainably. Trustees do this by calling on their significant experience within their areas of expertise.
Details of all our trustees and their terms of office can be found on the Meet the Team page of our website.
More details about the role of a trustee can be found in the trustee role description on our website.
What is the location and time commitment?
We are based in Barnsley and if successful you will receive a full induction to the hospice. The estimated time commitment total is approx. 2 days/month. Barnsley Hospice has a quarterly reporting cycle. Each quarter, you would need to attend one sub-committee meeting and one full board meeting (meetings start at 4.30pm or 5pm). In addition, we hold up to 4 board development sessions per year, at similar timings to other meetings. Each meeting will have papers and reports that are shared in advance for you to read. Occasionally, matters arise that need attention outside of the normal board cycle. These are predominantly managed by email. In addition to this, there are opportunities to promote and support the hospice at events across the year.
Do I need prior experience as a Trustee?
No, experience is not required. We are looking for people who are passionate about their local community, recognise the value that Barnsley Hospice brings and want to use their experience, knowledge and skills to further the work of the hospice.
We are particularly keen to achieve a more diverse Board of Trustees, and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
