As the designated HIPAA Privacy Officer, this leader ensures organizational compliance with HIPAA Privacy regulations, state confidentiality requirements, and internal privacy policies. The position partners closely with Compliance, IT, Legal Counsel, Clinical Leadership, and Revenue Cycle leadership.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree, or other postgraduate degree in a healthcare-related field, or with appropriate experience.Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in a healthcare-related fieldRequired Skills:
Expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines. Knowledge of clinical documentation integrity (CDI) principles. Deep understanding of electronic health record (HER) workflows and data governance. Knowledge of release of information (ROI) processes and state/federal medical record requirements. Understanding of HIPAA Privacy Rule and state confidentiality laws.Required Licensure/Registration/Certification:
RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)Preferred Licensure/Registration/Certification:
CHPC (Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance)
Required Experience:
Five years of progressive leadership experience in Health Information Management. Experience managing medical record operations, coding, ROI, and privacy compliance. Experience investigating privacy incidents and implementing corrective actions. Prior acute-care hospital experience
Preferred Experience:
Ten years of HIM leadership experience. Experience overseeing coding teams or CDI programs. Prior experience as Privacy Officer or co-lead.
