Cainco Limited are a specialist provider of ship-to-shore cargo transfer and surveying services within the edible oil industry. Our company ensures that cargo is transferred from vessels to onshore refineries safely and accurately on behalf of our clients.
The Role
We are looking for a motivated, dynamic candidate to join us as a Trainee Cargo Surveyor / Loading Master in April – May 2026. Because our work is unique, full training is provided.
The successful candidate will work as part of a small, experienced team to:
* Connect, disconnect, inspect and maintain cargo hoses, pipelines and transfer equipment;
* Direct, monitor and regulate cargo flow in accordance with operational requirements and safety parameters;
* Obtain samples of cargo from vessels, shore tanks and pipelines;
* Measure cargo levels and temperatures, and calculate densities, volumes and quantities;
* Obtain, complete, verify and issue operational data, documentation and reports as required by clients, vessels and terminals; and
* Liaise with vessels, terminals, refineries and colleagues before, during and after operations.
This role involves physical work, often at heights and sometimes in confined spaces, long / irregular shifts at unsociable hours, and outside work in all weather throughout the year, but offers a unique opportunity to learn specialist skills in an exciting and challenging environment.
Essential Attributes
Experience in this role is not essential – Cainco recruit for potential. However, the following are non-negotiable for all personnel within our company:
* Flexibility and willingness to work long hours and at unsociable times, where necessary;
* Comfortable with physically demanding work and working outdoors, near water, at heights and in confined spaces;
* High level of problem solving skills, attention to detail and ability to focus and prioritise, particularly under pressure and in challenging conditions;
* Excellent arithmetic and numeracy skills;
* High level of computer literacy, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
* Safety-conscious, reliable and able to work independently within a small team;
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills; and
* Ability to work to standard processes, while adhering to port / site policies and industry standards.
Due to the various sites within the Port of Hull at which we work, candidates must have a full UK driving licence and access to their own vehicle at all times.
Desirable Experience / Qualifications
Although not essential, the following experience, skills and qualifications would be beneficial to candidates applying for this role:
* Educated to A-Level or above in maths, chemistry and / or physics;
* Experience of working in a refinery, terminal or within a marine, maritime, port environment;
* Background requiring safety awareness and / or adherence to standard processes, policies or industry standards; or
* Experience of working with colleagues of different nationalities.
