Provide financial information and analysis to the managers of assigned business units as required, ensuring that the information prepared is accurate and available on a timely basis.
Core responsibilities
1. Prepare monthly management accounts for assigned business units, including the preparation of journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
2. Develop a deep understanding of assigned business units and the reasons for variances between actual performance and the forecast/budget.
3. Work closely with operations managers to provide a thorough understanding of all aspects of financial performance and conduct monthly reviews of management accounts.
4. Prepare monthly reforecasts in conjunction with operations managers.
5. Identify and implement improvements in internal financial procedures to increase reporting efficiency, including internal controls.
6. Populate the board report with actuals and reforecasted numbers ahead of deadlines.
7. Assist in preparing annual budgets with operations managers, ensuring robustness and readiness for board review, and challenge assumptions as needed.
8. Collaborate with the Financial Controller(s) to ensure timely and accurate accounts that withstand scrutiny.
9. Support the external audit process by providing prompt responses, explanations, and documentation.
10. Liaise with the Shared Service Centre (SSC) to ensure accurate and timely processing of purchase and sales ledger transactions.
11. Support credit control efforts to recover aged debtors.
12. Visit sites annually within the area of responsibility to build relationships and promote collaboration.
Other potential responsibilities
1. Manage weekly cash flow.
2. Maintain fixed asset register.
3. Analyze client profitability as required.
4. Complete ONS returns.
5. Prepare P11Ds/PSAs and submit returns to HMRC.
6. Complete VAT return.
7. Perform any other ad-hoc tasks as requested by management.
Qualifications and experience
Professionally qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
