Purpose
Reporting to the Overhead Line Design Manager, you will develop and deliver engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Transmission networks projects (132kV and above).
Responsible for projects of greater value and complexity within the portfolio whilst managing/supervising and developing less experienced staff within the department or project team, you will provide necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for the development of pre‑contract design and delivery of projects by leading the technical aspects of OHL systems and all other associated equipment, with a strong emphasis on Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
• Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements, supporting the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects and recommending construction and outage programmes where required.
• Prepare basic and detailed engineering specifications for OHL system designs and costs for high‑value, complex or business‑critical projects, and drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.
• Provide technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to the client, defining OHL equipment requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation.
• Prepare and review OHL drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement or other stakeholders, controlling correspondence and drawings to be issued to the Project Delivery and Pre‑Contract teams, ensuring compliance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
• Carry out tender assessment of OHL works (including suppliers) and support project management on the assessment of bids, providing technical support to the Pre‑Contract and Project Delivery teams on matters concerning design, construction, operation and maintenance of OHL systems and associated equipment.
What you’ll bring
Educated to an engineering degree or HND/HNC with equivalent experience, with experience in PLS‑CADD and other OHL software.
Significant experience delivering engineering solutions and designs for high‑value and complex transmission OHL projects, with proven abilities to communicate with and influence senior managers, and to produce clear and concise technical reports.
Willingness to undertake short trips away from home as required and flexibility in working hours to meet job requirements.
