South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
Two opportunities have arisen to join a dedicated and passionate team committed to ensuring the ENT department is a reference point of excellence in South Tyneside, Sunderland, and across the NHS.
We are looking for two substantive Consultants in Otolaryngology, one with a specialist interest in Rhinology and the other in Paediatrics. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to their subspecialty area. Candidates should hold FRCS (ORL HNS) or an equivalent qualification, have full GMC registration, and be on the specialist register (or within 6 months of CCT). This is a full-time (FTE) post with an indicative 10 PA job plan; consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work less than full time. On-call will be at 1:8.
There are many reasons to work at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT), including our commitment to putting people first, accessible services, and award-winning teams. We have a passion for research, innovation, and tackling inequalities. STSFT is committed to respect, fairness, and civility, promoting a compassionate, caring, and positive culture and working environment.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for the posts of Consultant in Otolaryngology with subspecialist interests in Rhinology and Paediatrics to join a team of 8 WTE Consultants and 4 less-than-full-time consultants.
The posts will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital, with possible peripheral clinics at Durham, Washington, or South Tyneside. The Directorate includes Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Audiology, and Orthodontics.
There is excellent collaboration within and outside the Directorate. The ENT department has shown continuous improvement and is open to innovative working methods, such as talk-to-text technology piloted for clinics and letters, helping to eliminate backlog of GP letters. Nurse Practitioners are trained and competent in managing common ENT conditions, allowing complex cases to be referred to consultants, enhancing patient care.
Teaching and training are priorities, with dedicated sessions three times a month during our Golden Hour, and we have received excellent feedback in this area.
