Your new company
Birmingham City Council are looking to onboard a Community Safety Intervention Officer to supervise a small team of Intervention Officers in the city centre, particularly around the New Street area, on a full-time, temporary ongoing basis for a minimum of 3 months, with strong possibilities for extensions.
Your new role
The role within the Birmingham City Council Community Safety Team involves delivering a reliable, customer-focused service. This is a full time role, 35 hours a week, operating Monday to Friday however there is an expectation to cover one Saturday every two weeks in which you would then have the following Monday off, working 5 days a week.
Key duties include conducting street patrols, community visits, and attending partnership meetings to build relationships with local partners. The role requires using prevention, early intervention, education, and enforcement approaches in line with relevant legislation and council policies. Responsibilities include investigating complaints, building evidence packs, and attending court when necessary. The officer will manage cases, maintain accurate records, and respond to complaints within set timescales. They will lead partnership action plans to address complex anti-social behaviour (ASB) issues and present reports on performance. The role involves engaging with residents, providing advice, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies. Officers will work collaboratively with partners to resolve ASB issues, participate in multi-agency forums, and act as the lead agency when required. Compliance with GDPR, Human Rights Act, and Equalities Act is essential. The officer will also ensure health and safety standards are met and that information systems are updated to support performance monitoring. Regular communication with residents and partners is crucial to promote community safety and build community capacity.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed as a Community Safety Officer with Birmingham City Council, you will need previous experience in a similar role or in an Enforcement Officer position. Previous team leader experience would be valued, as you will be supervising a small team. You'll need strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with local partners and residents. You must be adept at conducting street patrols, community visits, and attending partnership meetings. A thorough understanding of prevention, early intervention, education, and enforcement approaches is essential, along with knowledge of relevant legislation and council policies. You will need to manage cases, investigate complaints, build evidence packs, and attend court when necessary. Effective communication, compliance with safeguarding policies, and the ability to work collaboratively with partners to resolve anti-social behaviour issues are crucial. Additionally, maintaining accurate records and ensuring health and safety standards are met will be key to your success.
