Payroll Manager
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

A well-established distribution business based on the Wirral is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of the payroll function.
This is a hands-on role responsible for managing payroll processing for approximately 1,300 employees across weekly and monthly payroll cycles. The successful candidate will lead and support a small payroll team while working closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll is delivered accurately and on time.
Payroll Manager Responsibilities
* Manage the end-to-end payroll process for approximately 1,300 employees
* Oversee payroll processing across weekly and monthly payroll cycles
* Lead and support a small payroll team
* Ensure payroll is processed accurately and delivered on time each pay cycle
* Manage pensions and auto-enrolment processes
* Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee and payroll data
* Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation
* Review and improve payroll processes and internal controls
Payroll Environment
* Payroll for approximately 1,300 employees
* Combination of weekly and monthly payrolls
* Workforce with varied contractual terms, allowances and overtime structures
About You
The successful candidate will be a hands-on Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll professional who is comfortable managing payroll operations while supporting a team.
You will ideally have:
* Previous experience as a Payroll Manager, Payroll Supervisor or Senior Payroll Specialist
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions and auto-enrolment
* Experience managing complex payroll structures, overtime and allowances
* Experience leading or supporting payroll staff
* Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills
