Overview
The Derbyshire Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme is seeking to recruit 2 part-time Band 4 Screening Technicians to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning across Derbyshire, as part of the National AAA screening programme. The team delivers a high standard screening service to the population and aims to reduce deaths from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms, with the target screening population of men in their 65th year. Men with an aneurysm detected through screening will be offered treatment or monitoring depending on size.
Responsibilities
* Report scan results and their implications verbally to patients at the clinic.
* Participate in health promotion and maintain safe use of ultrasound equipment.
* Export and transfer images and results data electronically.
* Ensure ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard in accordance with National AAA Standard Operating Procedures.
* Work flexibly as part of a team and organise and prioritise workload.
* Travel between sites to conduct screenings, with screening equipment and supplies; undertake administrative duties for the programme.
* Provide reassurance to patients and explain the AAA screening programme to aid informed consent, addressing barriers to understanding where needed.
Qualifications and requirements
* Motivated and enthusiastic individuals with healthcare experience; ability to work flexibly and as part of a team; good organisation and communication skills at all levels.
* Must undertake a Diploma for Health Screeners specialising in AAA within 24 months of joining the Trust.
* Highly developed physical skills with a high degree of precision and hand–eye coordination.
* Driving license and access to a car fully insured for business use.

* Base: Royal Derby Hospital; travel to 30 community screening clinics across Derbyshire.
* Hours: flexible over 3 days during the working day (weekdays 08:30–16:30); occasional Saturdays.
* Employment type: Part-time; Band 4 Screening Technician; two positions.
