Overview
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts, offering a wide range of specialist clinical services and a base for medical education, training and research. We are looking for a Band 5 Neuro‑Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist to join the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE).
The OCE provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for adults with neurological disorders and a day service for patients with long‑term neurological conditions. The Occupational Therapy team works within a multi‑disciplinary team of physiotherapists, nurses, doctors, speech and language therapists, and clinical psychologists.
Main Duties
As a Band 5 OT at OCE you will:
• Work autonomously within the OT team providing assessment and treatment to patients referred to the service.
• Manage your own caseload under the guidance of senior OTs/Lead OT.
• Participate in the interdisciplinary team at OCE, delivering specialist rehabilitation.
• Assist the Lead OT in the provision, monitoring, and development of the OT service at OCE.
• Maintain and develop your own continuous professional development.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Communication
* Coordinate with all IDT members, patients, carers, and other health and social care services, including ward rounds and goal‑planning meetings to facilitate safe and effective discharges.
* Identify treatment programmes for patients and report on occupational therapy assessment and treatment progress with support from Senior OTs.
* Liaise with Lead or Senior OTs for caseload management and prioritisation.
* Promote good working relationships within the IDT and the wider OCE and OUH network.
* Attend staff meetings, Band 5 Support Group, and other service‑related meetings.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Conduct occupational therapy assessment and treatment for in‑ and out‑patients referred to the Neurological Rehabilitation Service under supervision.
* Assist Lead or Senior OTs in delegating routine OT activities to assistants or technicians where appropriate.
* Record all OT interventions in compliance with OUH, Royal College of Occupational Therapy, and NHS guidelines.
* Continuously evaluate OT interventions and maintain a high standard of clinical and professional practice.
* Carry out discharge home visits in liaison with health and social care agencies to identify equipment and care needs.
* Provide individual and group neurological rehabilitation as part of the interdisciplinary team.
* Agree and set IDT rehabilitation goals within goal‑planning meetings.
Qualifications
* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) or in the last 6 months of studies.
* Relevant undergraduate/postgraduate OT clinical experience.
* HCPC registration.
Experience / Skills
* Understanding of OT processes, OT models, and evidence‑based practice.
* Knowledge of therapy assessment techniques and tools.
* Problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Relevant clinical experience in a hospital setting.
