Salary: £26,000
Role Purpose
To support nurses in the effective day-to-day running of the medical centre in Cambridge, providing high-quality care and assistance to patients. The role involves working collaboratively to deliver safe, responsive healthcare services while upholding the organisation's values and ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of children at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Provision of healthcare
* Ensure that high-quality and effective care is provided to both students and staff
* Observe and monitor the wellbeing of students and report any different changes in their physical, mental or emotional behaviours to the School Nurses for further observation.
* Welcome staff and students to the Medical Centre in a friendly, reassuring & accommodating manner, responding to enquiries efficiently
* Maintain an environment that meets the needs of the student
* Sustain student confidentiality and be sensitive to personal health concerns
* Actively support the holistic well-being of all students
* Support the Nurses in developing provision for healthcare and wellbeing, to ensure day-to-day student needs are met.
* Maintain the cleanliness of the Medical Centre, ensuring that the correct sanitation is used in line with current guidelines
* Liaise with external agencies as deemed appropriate by the Nurses
* Store medical supplies and drugs effectively
* Arrange Boarding house visits, as directed by the Nurses
Administration:
* Organise medical appointments, ensuring that the Nurses are briefed in advance of a student's health before the appointment
* Ensure medical information and all relevant reports are electronically stored and up to date
* Adhere to statutory Health & Safety Legislation.
* Work collaboratively with staff to organise First Aid training for relevant staff and electronic storage of valid qualification records
* Ensure stocks of cleaning, pharmaceutical and clinical goods are maintained, and to order as required
* Ensure comprehensive notes and records are made in relation to incidents/accidents, and reported to relevant staff as necessary within the appropriate confines of confidentiality
* Register new boarders with the local surgery
* Distribute First Aid supplies throughout the region as required
* Co-ordinate the transport/escort of students to outpatient appointments if necessary
* Maintain general office supplies
* Always adhere to data protection and confidentiality policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Relevant Healthcare Assistant qualification or equivalent (Essential)
* Paediatric first aid qualification (Desirable)
* First aid trained (Desirable)
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant (Essential)
* Administrative experience (Desirable)
* Experience of working with young people/children in the medical or education sector (Desirable)
Skills & Abilities
Excellent spoken English
Excellent IT Skills
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
Knowledge of Healthcare provisions, treatment and medicine
Understanding of the importance of promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
Able to relate well to students and to take a real interest in their personal development
