We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic RGN/RN trained nurse to join our patient‑focused, caring practice.
Strong nursing skills in General Practice Nursing and personal development is encouraged.
Working days required are Tuesday & Wednesday.
Main duties of the job
* Be an active member of the Tower House Surgery Care Team, working with the partners and the practice team to promote treatment, preventative care and patient education.
* Assess, plan, provide and evaluate nursing care to patients.
Job responsibilities
* Perform clinical duties in the following areas (where trained): asthma, diabetes, hypertension, cervical cytology screening, family planning, travel vaccinations, flu vaccinations, dressings, ECGs, removal of sutures, treatment of minor injuries, taking swabs, childhood immunisations and any other clinical conditions identified by the partners.
* Be proactive in health promotion/education and support patients in changing lifestyle habits (stop smoking, diet and exercise).
* Adhere to infection control policy and practice guidelines.
* Collect pathological specimens and perform investigatory procedures requested by the doctors.
* Refer patients to other health professionals when appropriate, according to practice protocols and national guidelines.
* Conduct first aid for staff and patients if required.
* Assist in the maintenance and standards of practice equipment and drugs.
* Support and mentor new health care assistants.
* Communicate and liaise effectively for holistic patient care.
* Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Nursing & Midwifery Council code.
* Work with the practice nurses to maintain equipment and stock levels in the treatment room.
* Produce accurate, contemporaneous, complete records of patient consultations.
* Prioritise workload, manage time efficiently and ensure accurate completion of documentation.
* Participate in data collection for reports and audits.
* Participate in the formulation and updating of practice protocols and procedures.
* Adhere to professional code of conduct and ensure accurate recording of consultations and treatments.
* Engage in continuous professional development, annual appraisals, research, audits and meetings.
* Use electronic systems (EMIS Web, DOCMAN, etc.) for records and communication.
* Apply infection control measures and comply with health & safety policies.
Qualifications
* Qualified nurse with relevant experience in primary care, including completion of GPN or equivalent.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a close team.
* Experience in dressings, immunisations, cervical cytology, hypertension reviews.
* Knowledge of diabetes, asthma and travel vaccinations desirable.
Experience
* Experience working with adults and children in a variety of clinical situations.
* Previous experience in community or primary care desirable.
Knowledge and skills
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of basic nursing procedures.
* Familiarity with computerised records systems and inputting consultations.
* Ability to take instructions from clinical colleagues with or without supervision.
* Willingness to undertake administrative tasks, such as contacting patients for follow‑up appointments.
