Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666
England-based position involving policy design, environmental land management reforms and delivery oversight within the Environment Agency. The role contributes to the development and delivery of Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, including Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT), and supports the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate. The Environment Agency seeks dynamic, strategic thinkers to shape the future of ELM and its delivery across multiple teams and partners.
Responsibilities
* Advise in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones for ELM schemes.
* Identify future risks and resource requirements; work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate schemes that deliver outcomes.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of CSHT through design and delivery.
* Influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of regulatory reform and environmental policy.
* Collaborate with Defra and delivery bodies to achieve consistency and better collaboration across organisations.
* Represent EA expertise to Defra and the agriculture sector to foster coherence and effective partnerships.
Experience/skills Required
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas.
* Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship-building, and ability to manage expectations with customers and partners.

You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. Appropriate training will be given. The EA base location is flexible/hybrid in England; some travel may be required.
