We Make Morrisons…
From a Bradford market stall to the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, we are proud to be the Yorkshire food retailer serving customers across the UK with almost 500 stores and an online home delivery service. Our business is primarily food & grocery, and we uniquely source & process most of the fresh food we sell through our own manufacturing facilities.
We’re looking for an Operations/Deputy Manager to join our team. The Operations Manager plays a key role in ensuring store operations run smoothly, making Morrisons a better place for customers and colleagues alike. Carefully managing all aspects of the store – from operational KPIs to safety and compliance – they lead a high‑performing, engaged team that delivers exceptional standards for our customers.
Responsibilities
* Be accountable for the end‑to‑end process of all operations within the store, ensuring appropriate resources to deliver routines to the highest standard.
* Continuously identify, develop, and mentor talent across the store and wider region to build a pipeline of successors.
* Build the capability of the Management team through stretched accountability and targeted development plans.
* Partner with the People Manager to embed a culture of comfort with change and support managers to do the same.
* Ensure all departments and colleagues comply with food safety laws and other legal requirements.
* Develop forward‑thinking action plans for departments to increase performance.
* Contribute to the annual Store plan with a commercial mindset to identify opportunities that maximise performance.
* Use discretion within the framework to develop local ideas that exceed sales targets and drive performance while motivating colleagues.
* Build relationships with all key stakeholders to involve the right people in continuous improvements that benefit the customer.
* Lead by example to deliver exceptional standards and performance, focusing on what matters most for customers.
* Oversee all processes that affect product availability for customers, building management capability to feed continuous improvement and enhance the customer experience.
* Ask customers directly how we can improve daily offerings, integrating feedback into improvement plans and collaborating with central teams for ongoing service enhancement.
Benefits
We offer a competitive salary, generous bonus, an attractive pension scheme, private healthcare, and a colleague discount encouraged for friends and family. Families benefit from 26‑week maternity and adoption leave, as well as neonatal and fertility leave.
Qualifications
Our operations managers must have previous experience in the retail industry with proven management of a high‑turnover, customer‑facing operation (over £150k turnover per week) essential.
* Strong leadership skills with the capacity to listen, respond, and influence.
* Ability to inspire and think broadly about new ways of doing things.
* Strong coaching skills to give feedback for common ways of working.
* A passion for driving talent and creating a successful team culture.
* Skill in resolving challenges and building trust across the team.
* Ability to set clear, department‑linked objectives that align with Morrisons priorities.
* Commitment to fostering a collaborative culture.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
