We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join our supportive team at an alternative provision based in Bovington. The school is focused on providing tailored education for students with SEMH, behaviour challenges, and diverse learning needs.
Day to day, you will:
Plan and Deliver Tailored Lessons: Develop and implement bespoke lesson plans that meet the individual needs of students with SEMH, behavioural challenges, and diverse learning styles. Adapt teaching strategies and resources to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
Create a Safe and Supportive Environment: Establish a calm, nurturing classroom atmosphere that promotes emotional stability, positive behaviour, and confidence. Use de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches to manage challenging behaviours effectively.
Assess and Monitor Progress: Regularly observe and record students’ academic achievements and social-emotional development. Use assessments to inform planning and provide targeted interventions.
Support Behaviour Management: Implement personalised behaviour plans, reinforce positive behaviour strategies, and work closely with support staff and external agencies to promote consistency and progress.
Build Strong Relationships: Develop trusting, respectful relationships with students to foster engagement, motivation, and emotional resilience. Understand each student’s unique triggers and strengths.
Collaborate with Support Staff and External Professionals: Work alongside teaching assistants, therapists, social workers, and other specialists to provide holistic support tailored to each student’s needs.
Engage with Parents and Carers: Communicate regularly with families about student progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing, and involve them in planning and review meetings.
Promote Social and Emotional Skills: Incorporate activities and interventions that develop self-regulation, communication, and social skills, supporting students to improve their interactions and self-esteem.
Maintain a Positive Classroom Routine: Establish clear routines, expectations, and visual supports to help students feel secure and understand behavioural boundaries.
Administer and Monitor Interventions: Deliver specific therapeutic or educational interventions designed to support emotional regulation, social skills, or academic catch-up, and evaluate their effectiveness.
Ideal Candidate:
* Qualified SEN Teacher with experience working with children with SEMH, behaviour, or additional needs
* Patient, empathetic, and adaptable in approach
