🚀 Senior Data Engineer
📍 Manchester, UK (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite, Tuesdays & Thursdays)
💷 £70,000 – £80,000 + up to 10% bonus
Are you a technically strong Senior Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges and working directly with clients to deliver real business impact?
We’re looking for a commercially minded engineer to join a growing team in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to design, build and maintain scalable data platforms and pipelines that power analytics and AI-driven decision-making for leading UK organisations.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of hands-on engineering, consulting, and stakeholder engagement, with a clear pathway into people leadership.
What you’ll be doing:
* Design, build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines using Python and modern data engineering tools
* Translate complex business and data challenges into practical engineering solutions
* Lead technical scoping and delivery from requirements gathering through to deployment and support
* Build and maintain data models, transformation layers and orchestration frameworks
* Work closely with clients, presenting technical solutions in a clear and accessible way
* Champion data quality, governance and engineering best practices
* Mentor junior engineers and help shape a culture of technical excellence
* Collaborate with Cloud, MLOps and Analytics teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
* Support proposals, demos and client relationship development where needed
What we’re looking for:
* 5+ years’ experience in Data Engineering or a similar technical discipline
* Strong Python skills with production-level engineering experience
* Experience with tools/frameworks such as pandas, Polars, DBT
* Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and medallion architecture
* Hands-on experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure or GCP
* Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect or Dagster
* Strong SQL skills and experience with modern warehouse/lakehouse architectures
* Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Experience in a client-facing or consulting environment (or strong desire to develop this)
* Ambition to move into team leadership / people management
Nice to have:
* Experience with PySpark / Databricks
* Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka or AWS Kinesis
* Knowledge of data governance and quality frameworks
