Waking nights support worker - residential children's home

Lewes
SuperCare Residential
Waking night support worker
Posted: 1 October
Offer description

Overview

Nights at our residential children's home in Eastbourne are about safety, consistency, and calm. The children here live with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, severe learning disabilities, and complex communication needs. Some are non-verbal, while others use PECS or Makaton to communicate, and all require close supervision.

You'll help them feel safe through the night, responding to their needs with patience and professionalism. At times, you may need to manage behaviours like spitting, hair pulling, or self-harm, or respond quickly to an epileptic seizure. Your role is to be the calm, steady presence that helps the home stay safe until morning.

What You'll Do

At night, your role will focus on vigilance and reassurance:

* Support young people with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and severe learning disabilities.
* Respond to behaviours including spitting, hitting, or self-harm with calm professionalism.
* Provide personal care and hygiene support when required.
* Monitor epilepsy and respond appropriately to medical needs.
* Use non-verbal communication tools where needed.
* Carry out safety checks and record all night events.
* Handover clearly to the day team.
* Drive young people in and out of the community for emergencies or appointments.

What We're Looking For

This role needs a calm and observant person with resilience and care:

* Experience in autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and severe learning disabilities.
* Previous experience working night shifts
* Training or willingness to train in ligature, self-harm, epilepsy, and Team Teach.
* Skilled in using PECS, Makaton, or visual supports.
* Compassionate and trauma-informed, even when faced with challenging behaviours.
* Physically fit and reliable during long night shifts.
* Patient, consistent, and observant.
* Full and clean UK driving licence.

Benefits Working at SuperCare

Well ensure your night work is well supported:

* Salary 20% above sector average.
* 36 days of training each year (including epilepsy and PBS).
* Fully funded Level 3 Diploma.
* Private health care and 24/7 GP access.
* Gym stipend and well being package.
* Pension and bonus scheme.
* Free parking and communal cars to transport young people in and out of the community.
* Progression into Senior Night Coach roles.

Next Steps

Please apply for this role if you're passionate about supporting young people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
