About the Role
As a Life Skills & Vocational Instructor, you will help learners develop confidence, independence and practical skills that prepare them for everyday life and future work opportunities. Working closely with classroom teachers and support staff, you will deliver engaging Life Skills and vocational lessons across the school and ensure every pupil can participate, progress and succeed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan and deliver Life Skills and vocational lessons across the school in line with long‑term curriculum plans.
2. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to engage all learners.
3. Support pupils individually or in groups to develop independence, self‑esteem and daily living skills.
4. Teach vocational activities such as woodwork, DIY, painting and decorating, enterprise, work experience and travel training.
5. Use effective behaviour and classroom management strategies to maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
6. Observe learner performance, record progress and contribute to reports and meetings.
7. Lead and support Learning Support Assistants during lessons and, when required, cover class teaching.
8. Plan lessons within your specialist areas and ensure all pupils can access learning.
9. Complete risk assessments for activities with support from teachers and senior leaders.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
10. English and Maths GCSE 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent
11. Experience of working with autism and challenging behaviours.
