Job overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Administrator/Typist to join our supportive administrative team within the specialty of General Surgery. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth running of our administrative processes and supporting clinical staff with accurate and timely documentation.
Main duties of the job
* Typing both audio and copy.
* Act as a link between Medical Secretaries ensuring all communication is passed on accurately whilst upholding confidentiality.
* Prioritise workloads and work under pressure maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
* Typing of letters from clinics and any other general correspondence where necessary.
* Perform declarative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, answering telephones etc, to support team members.
* Cover colleagues within any of the specialties during absences/annual/sick leave and undertake job rotation for cross cover, development and training purposes.
* Ensure that all equipment such as computers, printers etc used are in working order, contacting relevant department/personnel if they are not.
* Offer advice and support and demonstrate duties to new members of staff.
* Work on own initiative and make decisions within written guidelines, sometimes without reference to others.
* Undertake any other ad hoc duties as requested by the Patient Pathway Manager or Administration Manager.
Qualifications / Training
* Maths & English GCSE of equivalent.
* Computer Literate with excellent keyboard skills.
* RSA II typing/word processing.
* Medical terminology.
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
* Experience of working in a busy office environment (to deadlines and targets).
* Knowledge of software packages such as Word, Excel.
* Willing to undertake further development/training.
* Experience of working in an NHS environment.
* Experience of working with Winscribe digital dictation & Dragon Dictation.
* Knowledge of EPR.
* Knowledge of Referral to Treatment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Able to work as part of a team.
* Able to use initiative appropriately.
* Able to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
* Ability to maintain high standards and accuracy of work.
Background check
Applicants may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
