*The closing date for this position is the 20 th March 2026* *This is an agency placement* Casual Cultural Assistant Down Arts Centre, Irish Street, Downpatrick Temporary (Approx 40 weeks) £13.63 per hour Casual hours (If and when required) If you were successfully appointed to the casual panel there is no entitlement to any minimum hours. Main Purpose The postholder will form part of a skilled team of front line staff across Council Museum and Arts Facilities and Council events to ensure a positive visitor experience by providing information services, hospitality, cleaning and security as required and to ensure high standards of customer satisfaction. Main Roles and Responsibilities 1. To ensure security and public order of the Museum/Arts Centre or at special events within Council Facilities and at Council events. 2. To carry out cleaning and housekeeping duties, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, in both interior and exterior locations, and to ensure records and paperwork are completed for same. 3. To provide a positive visitor experience and the highest levels of customer care and satisfaction to the public by providing high quality welcome, information, safeguarding and hospitality services. 4. To undertake reception, front of house and shop duties to include cash handling, bookings, class enrolments, box office, distribution of literature. To deal with customer complaints and to ensure the completion of market research, health and safety documentation where required. 5. To undertake a range of duties associated with exhibitions, performances and educational events, ensuring safe use and proper storage of exhibition material and equipment. 6. To assist in the practical preparations, including room and venue set-up, for events, exhibitions, workshops, performances, educational activities and promotional work at outside events including markets, seasonal and Council tourism events. 7. To report and escalate when necessary incidents, accidents and faults with equipment, fixtures and fittings internal and external. 8. To undertake a range of duties associated with all relevant arts, museum and events service as requested in venues and district-wide at Council-run events. 9. To report accidents promptly, seek assistance to safeguard members of the public as necessary and fill in all relevant accident reports forms. Service Delivery and Performance Be accountable to the Assistant Curator for all aspects of service delivery within the section; ensuring the provision and delivery of high quality and cost effective services. Financial Management and Controls 1. Ensure functions under the control of the post holder are operated in accordance with the Councils risk management and governance processes, and that the appropriate documentation is completed and signed off as necessary. Performance Improvement 2. Keep up-to-date with changes and amendments to relevant and allied legislation including areas of best practice relating to the postholders service area, reviewing practices, making recommendations to the Assistant Curator of the service and implementing service improvements, as appropriate 3. Participate in employee training and development activities to ensure that knowledge, skills and competence required to fulfil the role in full are up to date. Essential Criteria: (Please note that Platinum Recruitment NI Ltd require original certificates as proof of all qualifications listed on CV) -Grade C or above in at least 4 GCSEs or equivalent, one of which must be GCSE English Language or equivalent and one of which must be a GCSE in a numerate subject or equivalent. AND -At least 1 year’s relevant experience working directly with the public. OR -In lieu of qualifications at least 2 year’s relevant experience working directly with the public. -Experience within a creative or workshop environment working with children or adults. -Experience of cleaning duties in a working environment e.g., public building, office complex. -At least 3 months’ previous experience of cash handling and keeping associated records in a work environment. -Experience of room set up for events/functions -Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised, to deadlines as well as part of a team. -Good understanding of Health and Safety issues involved in working with the public and manual handling Platinum Recruitment NI Ltd is an equal opportunities employer and a Corporate Member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
