Purpose of Role
Working with, and reporting to, the Director of Data (Chief Data Analytics Officer) as a member of the Technology Senior Management team, Aztec Group is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Director of Data Governance to lead our Data Governance effort, a critical piece of our Data Strategy. This role is required to grow our maturity in how we think about and govern data within the organisation. The Associate Director of Data Governance will be responsible for refining our Data Governance framework and practices and leading and coaching our Data Governance Committee and supporting team of Technical Data Stewards and nominated Data Owners. A champion for holistic data governance, quality and accuracy across the company, overseeing the crafting of policy and procedure that influence our data centric culture.
Aztec is in the early stages of a significant transformation programme with Data at the heart of the change from a business and client perspective. Following the completion of our Cloud adoption programme and build of new Azure cloud-based data infrastructure, we have the foundations of a platform for growth. We have developed and refined a data strategy and a key part of this role will be to refine and implement the Data Governance elements of that strategy. This will involve building the data governance mindset into the business, while defining policy and procedure that support our Data Quality and usage needs.
This individual must be passionate about developing, sharing and leading the delivery of a Data Governance framework and operating model. This role will require strong stakeholder management as you will be responsible for introducing significant change and delivering operational improvements into the business and within the department associated with the introduction of a new approach to using and optimising our data.
Key responsibilities:
* Adopting and refining the lightweight Data Governance framework and operating model.
* Leading and coaching the Data Governance Committee made up of senior representatives of key business units and functions.
* The definition and roll out of highly relevant, concise, and non-ambiguous Data Policies and Procedures that inform the behaviours of staff and business process in support of enhancing Data Quality and access.
* Monitoring and reporting on the level of Data Policy compliance to the Group’s leadership team.
* Oversee the development of training and resources to embed the understanding of all our staff’s role in managing data and the impact of poor practices around data on our business.
* Advising the Director of Data (Chief Data Analytics Officer) on all aspects of Data Governance.
* Collaborating with our Data Platform Engineering team to develop and enhance the technical enablement elements that aid Data Governance, like MDM, Cataloguing, Lineage, Discoverability, and DQ measurement and monitoring.
* Define and champion use of uniform and accepted data standards.
* Manage the Technical Data Stewards, helping them to enhance their skill and progress in their careers.
* Determine and enforce specific security and privacy requirements for each piece of data working with Security and DPO – especially as it relates to privacy laws, industry regulations, and corporate compliance mandates.
* Collaborate with third party vendors to align the priority of initiatives and delivery that are inter-dependent.
Skills, knowledge, expertise:
* A recognised data leader who can be accountable for Data Governance execution in Aztec, including delivery and operations in line with business requirements
* Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with proven ability to build effective relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders, capable of flexing style, understanding, and engaging with different audiences including clients and the market.
* Promote and foster a culture of high preforming teams.

* Experience in leading Data Governance within an organisation.
* An open, supportive, and visible management style to earn the confidence and respect necessary to effectively deliver the agenda on major data change.

* Strong strategic skills, quantitative analysis, structured thinking, and logical reasoning; resilient and proactive, capable of creative problem solving under pressure.
* Resilience, with the ability to perform in a high-pressured environment, juggling tactical and strategic challenges.
* A working knowledge and understanding of Data Governance trends. Experience of enhancing data maturity within a fast paced, delivery organisation.
* At least 10 years of experience in Data Governance
* Proven track record of leading successful data-driven projects and initiatives
* Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
