Overview

Are you an experienced Healthcare Support Worker with acute hospital experience looking for a role with full flexibility? You will work within an NHS Trust committed to ongoing development and a wide range of clinical skills and knowledge.

To undertake this role, you must:

* Have experience of working in an acute hospital setting within the last 12 months OR be a Student Nurse in your second year who has completed a placement in an acute hospital setting (please ensure this is documented in your application).
* Hold an NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
* GCSE A*- C (grade 4 and above) in English & Maths or equivalent
* Be able to work a minimum of 2 shifts in a rolling 4 month period and remain compliant with all essential training

Collaborative Bank

We are part of a collaborative bank with North Bristol Trust (NBT). If you are currently working as a bank staff member at either UHBW or NBT, you do not need to apply for a bank role with the other Trust. Successful candidates will be able to book shifts across both Trusts. You will be expected to do 5 days of induction within a 1 week period.

If successful, you will be employed on a zero hour agreement and may be required to work between Bristol and Weston sites.


Main duties of the job

A Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to provide high quality, compassionate health care in line with assessed needs and a care plan.

You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks, under the supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, in accordance with Trust values. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and area-specific skill set.

There will be opportunities to develop knowledge and skills specific to your needs.

Nursing Care (under indirect supervision, once deemed competent):

1. Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
2. Duties delegated to you in line with care plans.
3. Not all duties are routine; use your knowledge and experience to make decisions within your area of responsibility.
4. Carry out a range of clinical duties with minimal/no supervision (e.g., blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse, respiration, glucose monitoring, sample collection/testing, and wound swabs), ensuring high-quality patient care. NB: this list is not exhaustive and varies by area of work.
5. Participate in patient assessment and escalate concerns to other clinical staff.
6. Maintain safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and policies, with concentration maintained throughout the day.
7. Provide clinical care in line with infection prevention and health and safety policies.
8. Maintain the work environment in line with infection control and patient safety policies.
9. Develop skills to facilitate self-care and independence for patients.
10. Promote health education relevant to the clinical area and aligned with national/local policies.
11. Maintain accurate records of communication with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
12. Ensure equipment and stores are well maintained and report faulty equipment.
13. Work effectively as part of a team.


Person specification

Qualifications and Training (Essential)

* NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
* GCSE A*- C (grade 4 and above) in English, or equivalent
* GCSE A*- C (grade 4 and above) in Maths, or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience (Essential)

* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting within the last 12 months OR 2nd Year Student Nurse who has completed a placement in an acute hospital setting
* Be able to work as a member of a team
* Experience of time management and prioritising work

Skills and Abilities (Essential)

* Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
* Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
* Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
* IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills
