Role Description The Carn to Cove Programme Manager is responsible for the delivery of and overseeing the long term planning of Carn to Cove Cornwall’s rural touring scheme, and to connect opportunities for rural touring into our Creative Communities programme area. The postholder will maintain and develop partnerships with local volunteer promoters and make relationships with performers and companies to both champion local artists, and to bring a diverse range of work into Cornwall. This cross artform range of work includes theatre, music, dance, puppetry, film and spoken word and will involve local, national, and international companies. The role covers a range of different activities and requires experience of programming, artist liaison, partnership working and event promotion. The programme manager is part of the Creative Communities team at Creative Kernow and manages the Creative Communities Administrator. Attending showcases and festivals in the UK and further afield and pro-actively seeking innovative, diverse work is a key part of the role, as well as supporting both the performers and local promoters by attending a high proportion of our events in person. This job description is not an exhaustive list, and we will expect you to carry out any other activities which may reasonably be required in accordance with the needs of the programmes. This means that we will expect you to be flexible and adaptable within your role. The post involves flexible working and will require some working at evenings and weekends. Travel to locations within Cornwall will be required as part of this role. The key tasks and responsibilities are: Programming • Attending festivals and showcases to source an exciting, challenging, diverse range of work available for small scale touring in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly • Selecting a diverse programme of artists for the menu party cycle • Booking two seasons of events per year – managing the selection of performances across Cornwall, raising contracts, and signing off invoices for payment • Being the main point of contact for venues and artists • Approving promotional content including online and print • Liaising with professional promoters in Cornwall about the scheme • Maintaining and developing the status of rural touring in Cornwall • Attending performances to monitor the scheme and support venues and promoters • Networking with regional and national rural touring organisations on joint programming and developing practice • Maintaining a working relationship with National Rural Touring Forum and developing projects, where appropriate Income Generation • Working with the Director of Creative Communities to determine fundraising targets, prospects and approach and liaising with the FEAST team to maximise potential reach into creative communities • Liaising with and reporting to existing funders, with support from Creative Communities Administrator and Creative Communities Director • Developing ticketing strategies to maximise income and provide opportunities for wider community reach • Seeking alternative and additional sources of funding, with other partners, to develop new touring opportunities Data and Impact • Ensuring audience and participant data is collected and analysed regularly and using it to support forward programme and budget planning, reporting to funders and trustees • Contributing data and insight to support Creative Kernow communications and campaigns • Coordinating the evaluation and collecting statistical information for the events • Maintaining an up-to-date audience database on Mailchimp • Maintaining up to date information on touring performance companies / artists Scheme Management • Providing regular reporting to the Chief Executive and the CK board • Working with the Director of Finance to maintain financial control over the budget • Benchmarking activity against other similar organisations • Responsible for the strategic direction and advocacy of the programmes Project work and additional activity • Participate in team meetings with Creative Communities and the wider Creative Kernow team. • Undertake required training and contribute to organisation through away days, team meetings and participation in a cross organisational taskforce • Supporting national and local networks including European Network of Cultural Centres (ENCC), SW Rural Touring Schemes, Cornwall Venues Network. • Circus Around and About 3 – project partner • Create Tour Connect– ambassador scheme, meetings, planning and programming Person specification – key competencies: Essential: • Excellent understanding of professional performance work appropriate to rural touring • Excellent relationship management skills with evidenced experience of partnership working • Experience working in the arts at a managerial level • Strong project management and evaluation skills, evidenced through their work • Experienced budget manager • Good knowledge of the arts sector in Cornwall and the development of performing arts activities in a rural location • A clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, evidenced through their work • Excellent communication and IT skills and a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office including Teams Desirable: • A good understanding of audience development and event promotion • Working with volunteers and voluntary organisations • Understanding of community engagement • Full driving licence and access to own transport We are particularly interested in your ability and experience, rather than your qualifications, so there are no formal minimum requirements.
