Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) mental health team based in Oak Ward, Radlett. The post holds responsibility for specialist assessment, individual and group interventions, and offers opportunities for professional development within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of clients with complex occupational therapy needs, applying evidence‑based, client‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in clinic, community and home settings.
* Lead junior staff through supervision and appraisal, coordinating day‑to‑day activities where appropriate.
* Supervise OT students and support the induction, training and education of students and other staff.
* Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of OT services, and lead designated projects.
* Work with clients to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan and plan/implement individual and group interventions using graded activity.
* Apply occupational therapy assessments to address occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling clients in self‑maintenance, productivity and leisure.
* Use a problem‑solving approach to reduce risk at home and recommend adaptations to the client’s physical and social environment.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness, providing feedback to appropriate forums.
* Review and reflect on personal practice and performance through effective supervision and appraisal.
* Demonstrate basic leadership skills through the management of designated projects.
Qualifications
* HCPC Registration
* BSc/MSc/PGDip in Occupational Therapy
* Experience of working in a mental health or PICU setting
* Proficient use of MS Office and associated packages
* Previous experience of working in acute mental health is essential
* UK professional registration (required)
Desirable Criteria
* Membership of RCOT
* Training in the Model of Human Occupation
* Training in other OT models such as VdTMOCA
* Training in Sensory Integration and application of the OT process, functional assessment and activity analysis
* Working knowledge of Recovery principles
* Working knowledge of standardised assessment and outcome measures relevant to the role
* Experience of a leadership or supervisory role
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience of leading a range of groups and 1:1 interventions in a health or social care setting
