Job overview

Practice Educator Emergency Department An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Educator, to join the Emergency Department at St Richards Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.We currently see approximately over 100,000 patients per year, with 25% of patients we see being children. We are also a designated Trauma unit.The Emergency Department consists of 5 adult and 1 Paediatric Resuscitation bays. 23 Major spaces, made up of 15 trolleys and 8 chairs, a Rapid Assessment Bay and a 6 chair Ambulatory Clinical Decision Unit. The ED also has its own mental health area supported by RMNs working closing with the mental health liaison service provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. St Richards ED has a dedicated Paediatric ED, which provides a separate waiting area, 2 isolation rooms, 2 assessment cubicles, a CAMHS room and a teenage/high dependency area used flexibly based on patient demand/acuity. We also have a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, for the treatment of Minor Injuries and Illness. As a department, we are keen to recruit enthusiastic, motivated nurses, who have excellent communication skills and are able to work in a fast paced and at times challenging environment.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Lead Practice Development Nurse to establish and maintain a positive and effective clinical learning environment for both pre and post registered nurses, including overseas nurses and there specific needs.


To proactively promote and deliver evidence based education and support to promote best nursing practice at all times. To ensure nursing staff have both the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective, compassionate care competently, aiming for the highest standards possible. Training will primarily be delivered via direct clinical teaching with some classroom/alternative forums as required.

Experience / Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse
2. Minimum 2 years ED Experience
3. Mentorship/PSPA qualification
4. Confident & Competent in all areas of Emergency Care
5. Emergency Nursing Level 1 competent
6. Evidence of study at Level 7 relevant to Emergency Care

Desirable criteria

7. Emergency Nursing Level 2 competent
8. Any experience or background in teaching or delivering training Leadership & Role modelling
