About the Role As Principal Fire Engineer, you will act as one of the senior technical authorities within Harmony’s consultancy function. You will lead complex fire engineering workstreams, contribute heavily to strategic technical decisions, and support the development of the growing Edinburgh-based team. This role requires deep technical expertise, exceptional client-facing capabilities and the confidence to work across complex building types, regulatory challenges and multi-stakeholder environments. You will play a key role in shaping Harmony’s fire engineering standards as we grow our consultancy footprint nationally. Working closely with the Technical Director, you will provide expert input into fire strategies, RIBA-aligned designs, FRAEW assessments, external wall reviews and broader risk management planning. You will also help build and mentor a team of high-calibre engineers as we scale. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and peer review of fire engineering strategies and risk management plans • Provide senior technical leadership across consultancy projects • Apply in-depth knowledge of the Fire Safety (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 • Support and advise on the Single Building Assessment (SBA) process • Contribute expert oversight to FRAEW assessments under PAS9980 • Mentor, guide and support a small team of engineers and consultants • Manage client relationships and communicate complex technical concepts clearly • Produce fully compliant documentation aligned to relevant British Standards, ADB and CP3 • Utilise SaaS tools (Bluebeam, RISKBASE, RISKFLAG) for capturing and presenting evidence • Support the continuous improvement of our new consultancy division Skills, Experience & Qualifications Minimum 10 years’ experience in fire engineering • Degree in Fire Engineering or Level 6 fire-related qualification • Professional membership at Member level (MiFireE or equivalent) • Strong understanding of Fire Safety Order 2005, Building Safety Act 2022 and secondary legislation • Experience delivering RIBA-stage fire engineering outputs • Ability to undertake FRAEW under PAS9980 • Level 6 RICS External Wall qualification (ideal) • Experience leading a technical team • Engineering Council registration (EngTech/IEng/CEng) or working towards • Detail-driven, proactive and able to operate independently in a senior technical capacity Benefits Unlimited holiday • Private medical scheme • Bonus scheme up to 50% of salary • European mini-breaks and company events • Takeaway Friday, fruit, snacks and refreshments provided • Cycle to Work scheme • Enhanced maternity and paternity • Team social budget • Auto-enrolment pension scheme Our Values Athletes Grit – Determination, resilience and drive to deliver excellence • Captains Duty – Accountability, leadership and ownership • Fun Loving Heart – Positivity, energy and genuine support for others
