Configuration Engineering Manager – Defence Sector
RC Fornax are looking for Configuration Manager to support our defence customer based in New Malden.
This is 6 months contract initially, outside IR35 and hybrid opportunity (3 days on site per week)
Pay rate is negotiable DOE.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership: Line manage a team of 2–5 engineers, ensuring safety, performance, and professional development.
* Capability Development: Identify skill gaps, plan training, and build capability across the Config function.
* Resource Planning: Manage resource allocation, recruitment, and outsourcing to meet project demands.
* Functional Delivery: Ensure high-quality outputs are delivered on time and within budget, aligned with company processes and standards.
* Project Leadership: Act as the Config lead on complex programmes, overseeing execution and progress.
* Documentation & Review: Approve and review Config plans, designs, and deliverables.
* Strategic Planning: Contribute to engineering strategy and implement functional plans aligned with business objectives.
* Process & Compliance: Drive process improvements, ensure compliance with standards (e.g. Defence Standard 05-057), and manage Config-specific tools.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships across departments to support project delivery and promote the Config function.
* Continuous Improvement: Lead audits, assessments, and initiatives to enhance functional excellence.
What We’re Looking For
* Degree in engineering or equivalent experience in Configuration Management.
* Proven experience in defence, maritime, or aerospace sectors.
* Strong knowledge of defence standards and regulations.
* Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and delivering Config projects.
* Expertise in lifecycle Configuration Management, including planning, execution, and in-service support.
* Ability to tailor Config models for design, documentation, software, and data while maintaining control
