Donnington Grove Veterinary Group are a busy Equine Hospital based in Newbury, Berkshire.
We are currently seeking to employ an additional Equine Care Assistant to join our team. Our Equine Care Assistants play a vital role in supporting our veterinarians by handling horses during procedures, maintaining cleanliness and supplies in the examination rooms, and collaborating closely with the Yard Assistants to ensure high-quality care for the horses on-site.
Key responsibilities include restraining horses for standing surgical procedures, image acquisition (including CT, MRI, and Scintigraphy), and presenting horses for lameness investigations, including trotting up, lunging, and restraining for invasive procedures. Other aspects of the role include maintaining extremely high levels of biosecurity within the hospital and ensuring all clinical areas are prepared and ready for use. You will also assist the Yard Assistant team in the daily care of horses, which encompasses tasks such as grooming, mucking out, maintaining yard cleanliness, and coordinating the admission and discharge of horses.

Our main Hospital has RCVS Tier 3 hospital status and is based in Newbury, which is a thriving town in West Berkshire, with many restaurants and only a 45-minute train journey to London Paddington. Situated on the edge of the North Wessex Downs AONB, it also provides beautiful local countryside for long walks with our canine friends. The Branches at Tadley and Thatcham are both located within a short distance of Newbury and are fully equipped for surgical procedures and digital diagnostic imaging.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience working with various types of horses, including thoroughbreds, and possess a strong commitment to equine welfare and teamwork. All applicants need to have excellent horse handling skills and be used to handling a variety of horses, including thoroughbreds.
Your shift pattern
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week across a variety of shifts Monday-Friday. You will also be included in the 1:5 weekend rota and the bank holiday rota.
