Position: Garden Assistant & Driver
Location: Private Estate, North Wales / Cheshire border (13 acres)
Salary: £40,000 per annum
Accommodation: Live-out role
Holiday Entitlement: 25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays
Reporting to: Head Gardener / Estates Manager
Contract: Full-time, 40 hours per week (flexible, with occasional weekend and evening work)
The Estate
This prestigious 13-acre private estate on the North Wales / Cheshire border features formal and informal gardens, orchards, rose gardens, herbaceous borders, cut flower beds, vegetable and kitchen gardens, greenhouses, topiary, lawns, ponds, and surrounding woodland. The estate is currently undergoing a programme of upgrades and development, offering an exciting opportunity to join a committed and supportive team.
The Role
The Garden Assistant & Driver will provide hands-on support across the estate, combining practical gardening assistance with responsibility for driving and maintaining the estate's fleet of vehicles. This varied role would suit a hardworking and adaptable individual who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in ensuring both the gardens and vehicles are presented to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
Gardening Support
* Assist the Head Gardener with routine maintenance tasks.
* Lawn care: mowing, edging, and basic upkeep.
* Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and general garden duties.
* Support with pruning, hedge trimming, and seasonal tasks.
* Help ensure the gardens and grounds are maintained to an excellent standard.
Driving & Fleet Care
* Drive the Principals and guests when required (including evenings and weekends by arrangement).
* Ensure all vehicles are kept clean, polished, and in excellent condition.
* Carry out routine checks (oil, tyre pressures, fluids) and organise servicing, MOTs, and repairs.
* Keep accurate records of vehicle maintenance schedules.
General Estate Assistance
* Support the wider estate team with ad hoc tasks.
* Jet washing patios, driveways, and outdoor areas as required.
* Flexible approach to assisting with estate projects and events.
Candidate Profile
* Full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
* Enhanced DBS check required.
* Previous experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, or a similar role desirable.
* Experience of vehicle care and basic maintenance an advantage.
* Hardworking, flexible, and reliable with a professional approach.
* Discreet, trustworthy, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
* Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
