Assistant Buyer Location: Balmoral Tanks Limited, Thurnscoe, Rotherham (with occasional UK supplier visits and potential overseas travel) Department: Procurement Reporting to: Procurement Manager About the Role We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Buyer to support the procurement of all requirements within assigned categories in a sound, ethical manner and in line with business needs to ensure on‑time delivery to the end customer. Working as part of the Purchasing Team, you will be involved in tendering, evaluation and negotiation activities, while taking ownership of your personal objectives and contributing to team targets through effective delivery of procurement tasks. Key Responsibilities Operate a safe working environment in line with company policies and procedures. Maintain records of personal development and training. Assist in placing purchase orders and tracking deliveries to ensure timely arrival of goods. Communicate with suppliers to confirm order details, resolve discrepancies and follow up on outstanding issues. Support Purchasing in sourcing new suppliers and obtaining quotes. Establish and build good working relationships with suppliers and manage contracts with key suppliers. Liaise with internal departments including logistics, finance and operational teams to ensure a smooth procurement process. Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, contracts and supplier information. Financial Accountability Work to budgets set by Finance/Sales and highlight discrepancies to the Line Manager. Identify and record any cost or efficiency saving activities. Who You’ll Work With Indirect Relationships: HSEQ, Procurement personnel, Design, Manufacturing, Planning, Goods Inwards/Stores, Finance, Sales, Contracts, QA, Suppliers and Subcontractors. Qualifications Essential: GCSEs or equivalent, especially Maths and English A‑Levels or equivalent vocational qualifications Desirable: Studying towards or interest in CIPS certification Experience Previous experience in an administrative or procurement role is desirable. Working knowledge of the construction industry or manufacturing would be desirable Skills & Abilities Strong organisational and time‑management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good presentation and written skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Personal Qualities Mature and customer‑focused attitude. Belief that customers are revenue and everything else is overhead.
