THEATRES, ANAESTHETICS, CRITICAL CARE, PAIN & PRE-OP DIRECTORATE CARE SUPPORT WORKER - CRITICAL CARE Band 2 permanent (Full/Part Time)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Clinical Support Workers to join the Critical Care team at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. This role is based within a high‑acuity environment, supporting patients with complex needs and working closely with the multidisciplinary team. Post holders will assist with personal care, basic clinical tasks, and help maintain a safe and clean setting, contributing to the smooth running of the Critical Care. The position involves working a rotational shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Main duties
* Welcome and orientate patients, relatives, carers and visitors to Critical Care, demonstrating care and compassion.
* Report any observed changes in a patient's physical or psychological condition to the registered practitioner.
* Support the registered practitioner and wider clinical team during clinical procedures and emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, falls, acute deterioration).
* Assist with patient transfers/escorts within scope of practice, including transfers to other wards or departments (e.g., CT scan).
* Assist with Care After Death, respecting all cultural and religious requirements.
* Maintain individual hygiene needs including washing, dressing, oral care, hair and nail care, and report any concerns.
* Assist in the prevention of pressure ulcers and report any deterioration in skin integrity.
* Support safe moving and handling, maximising mobility using appropriate equipment (e.g., hoists, walking aids, rehabilitation chairs).
* Encourage involvement of carers where appropriate.
* Work with the multi‑disciplinary team to deliver rehabilitation plans and update patient diaries.
* Apply minor dressings or appliances under supervision.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* Maths and English qualification – GCSE A‑D, or Grade 4‑9, or Functional Skills Level 1
* Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification / relevant experience
Knowledge & Training
* Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
* Prepared to undergo further training
* Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
* An understanding of their role within the team
Experience
* Able to assess patient's health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate
* Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
* Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
* Experience in a healthcare environment
Desirable
* Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Evidence of effective communication skills including verbal, written (legible handwriting), non‑verbal, compassion and respect
* Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and/or carers
